Minnesota Rush Welcomes Albert Lea into the Rush Family

MN-RUSH-ALBERT-LEA

Minnesota Rush has announced that it is expanding into the city of Albert Lea, merging with volunteer organization, Albert Lea Youth Soccer Association (ALYSA)! Rush is proud to see the club growing and is excited to welcome Alberta Lea into the Family.

Minnesota Rush Executive Director Kevin Lowery explains how this partnership came about:

“Albert Lea was looking for some help - this ranged from office stuff to growing their programs.  They reached out to us asking if we would have an interest in meeting. We got together and shared all the wonderful things Rush provides clubs and what we at MN Rush could do specifically for them.  The AL Board then reached out to another partner club that joined with us, Winona Youth Soccer Association, to discuss how it was going being part of MN Rush. Shortly after that conversation, AL Board reached back out to us wanting to move forward.”

The staff involved in this merger include Kevin, MN Rush Technical Director Niel Cassidy and Albert Lea staff Cody Brownlee, Katie Pestorious, and Mac Ehrhardt.

With the addition of 200 players, MN Rush is excited to move forward. There are many future goals set into the plan, including:

  • Start and grow a REC program in 2020
  • Increase competitive numbers by 10% for 2021
  • Start a winter Futsal program
  • Offer 2 coaching license courses through MN Rush
  • Take over all office “things” beginning this year

“I am most excited to see the start of the REC program,” Kevin stated. “For me, this provides an opportunity for all kids that want to try and play the greatest sport in the world.”

MN Rush plans to start with grades K-4 in the spring of this year and offer a Fall program later this year. They hope to expand to grades K-6 for 2021.

“The number one point of the merger is to grow soccer locally in the Albert Lea area and to grow soccer regionally,” Kevin writes on the Minnesota Rush website. “We at MN Rush are confident we can help players, coaches, and families in the Albert Lea area. Our goal is to keep the “local” feel for families but also provide resources and opportunities to all the players by being part of a larger organization.”

Rush is looking forward to seeing the greatness that will come from Albert Lea and honored to have them as part of the Rush Family.
